Hip Hop Comes Together to Help Haiti

Ever since tragedy struck the Caribbean nation of Haiti with a fatal 7.0 earthquake last Tuesday January 12th, the hip hop community has come together to help aid the ailing country.

Haitian born Wyclef Jean continues working with the Yele Haiti Foundation , urging the public to do all they could to help by texting “Yele” to 501501, which will automatically donate $5 to his Yele Haiti Earthquake Fund (which will be charged to your cell phone bill).

Lupe Fiasco teamed up with Music for Relief to record a song for their unreleased music compilation album to benefit the Caribbean nation, with all proceeds being given to earthquake victims. Bun B hosted a benefit show and enlisted his friends to put together a fundraiser in Houston, while Snoop Dogg and Diddy spent time working the phone banks at CNN for their Haiti Relief telethon.

Unlike some of his hip hop peers who hosted benefit shows, Rick Ross took another route and held a blood drive in southern Florida this past Monday.

David Banner is working with Hip Hop Caucus and their new website called Hip-HopforHaiti , which gives information on ways for people to contribute to the cause through local organizations and events.

Jay-Z is scheduled to be one of the headliners for MTV’s “Hope 4 Haiti Now: A Global Benefit for Earthquake Relief” telethon, airing this Friday, January 22nd. In addition, Hov is teaming up with philanthropist rocker Bono to record a song for Haiti.
